I’m a coffee fiend. As high maintenance as it sounds, my day does NOT start until I’ve had my morning dark roast. If I had to choose between coffee and tea, I’d pick coffee 1,000 times over — actually, I’d probably pick coffee over most things: food, water, shelter, oxygen… It’s not that I dislike tea, it’s fine, I’ve just always considered it too mellow to wake me up. Well, apparently I’ve been adult-ing all wrong, because tea (green tea in particular) is actually a much smarter morning option than coffee! THE OUTRAGE! I might not get over this, but I have to admit there is some serious evidence backing the tea claim…
Tea Helps You Fight Disease
Coffee is not bad for you, per se, but it’s not good for you either. Tea on the other hand actively fights esophageal cancer — reducing the risk in women by up to 60%! What’s more, tea has antioxidants that both slow the effects of aging AND (!!!) help prevent heart disease.
Tea Can Help You Lose Weight…?!
In contrast to the fattening, sugar-coma-inducing options available for most coffee drinks, tea (unless you’re a v adventurous Argo Tea goer) doesn’t provide much room for fatty extras. Additionally, tea wards off the growth of new fat cells!
Tea Keeps You Active Longer Than Coffee Does!
Coffee is a shock to the system, the results of which often save the day (for me, at least). BUT (ugh, the but…), coffee’s effects wear off quicker, which can sometimes leave you feeling more strung-out than you did before your first cup. Tea, however, endures. You won’t need to guzzle cup-after-cup to stay on your game!
So… why aren’t you drinking tea yet??? Get on it, girl!
